~Meet Janine Eaby, Author~
Thanks for stopping by! I’m Janine Eaby, a fantasy author devoted to creating stories that inspire. I write young adult fantasy books that explore themes of power, faith, and resilience in the darkest of times.
I was an awkward teen that never really knew what to say or where I fit in. Now, I’ve found my voice and I explore how language often seems to fail us through Alaira Hughes, a teen who feels stuck between two worlds.
My books bring the adventure back to fantasy without the need for explicit content—leaving out sexual scenes and foul language and getting back to the heart of the story. I believe that for every dark tunnel, there is a light at the end. As a child, I often gazed at the stars, admiring how they still shine though surrounded by darkness. Now I reflect on how something seemingly so mundane has given me hope then, and continues to give me hope for the future. My love for stories goes back to this simple act of staring at the sky and imagining a brighter future.
Portal fantasy meets mystery in Beyond the Water’s Edge: a young adult fantasy book series influenced by my faith, love of nature, and desire for adventure.

For fans of portal fantasy like The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and hidden-identity and emerging-powers tropes like Shadow and Bone.
I’m supposed to write in third person, but that just feels pretentious, so I’m not. When I’m not writing, I like to experiment with drawing and music, and when the weather’s nice, you can find me in my garden or the woods.
In fourth grade my teachers asked us if we wanted to play an instrument. I wanted to play the saxophone, but by the time they got to me, I was nervous and blurted out the first instrument that came to mind. Anyway, that’s how I ended up playing the trumpet for four years. Not the most glamorous instrument. My first band was called The Little Big Band, and we played for the reopening of Chocolate World in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and for the opening of a Hershey’s chocolate store in Chicago. These days, I don’t play for anyone but myself (and my husband, who was nice enough to buy me a trumpet). I’m self-taught on the wood flute (not very good) and the piano (even worse).
I’m a recluse come winter and mostly read and write and try to keep my houseplants alive.
